ShareX is a free, open-source screenshot and screen-recording tool packed with features that paid apps charge for. Capture the full screen, a window, a region or a scrolling web page, then annotate it with arrows, text, highlights and blur before saving or sharing.
It can record the screen as video or animated GIF, extract text from images with OCR, pick colours, measure on-screen elements and upload captures automatically to dozens of services. Custom workflows let you chain actions — for example capture, add a watermark, copy to clipboard and save to a folder — all from one keyboard shortcut.
The sheer number of options can be overwhelming and the settings menus are dense. Once configured, though, ShareX becomes one of the most useful tools on a Windows PC, especially for support staff, writers and anyone who explains things with screenshots.
