Open-source parametric 3D CAD modeller

FreeCAD is a free parametric 3D modeller for mechanical design, product design and architecture. Because models are parametric, changing one dimension updates the whole design, and dedicated workbenches cover parts, assemblies, drafting and building information modelling.

It works with common formats such as STEP and IGES, which helps when exchanging files. Its workflow differs from commercial CAD and takes some time to learn.

Pros

  • Free for any use
  • Parametric modelling
  • Supports STEP and IGES

Cons

  • Learning curve
  • Interface less polished than paid CAD
